A voluntary quiz of licensed Washington State notaries between May 12th and August 19th, 2026, reveals that
Only 49% of notaries can identify the three most common types of notarial acts.
That number is more than a statistic – it is a warning sign.
If over half of the notaries cannot even identify the type of notarial act that means they:
- Are not following the legally required steps for each specific act,
- Are not properly recording the notarial act,
- Could have their notarizations invalidated leading to civil, criminal, and administrative penalties,
- Opening themselves to unlimited personal liability.
Every notarial act has specific actions which must be followed. Without training, notaries are guessing — and guessing leads to incorrect, incomplete, invalid, and rejected notarizations which can harm not only your client but yourself and your employer.
Your state‑required notary bond protects the public, not you. If an error occurs, the injured party is paid from your bond — and then reimbursement to the bonding company comes directly from the you notary.
Protect yourself, your employer and the public with proper training and insurance.
Proper training teaches notaries how to:
- Identify the notarial act
- Properly identity the signer
- Complete the notarial act in accordance with state law
- Maintain state compliant records
- Know when a notarization must be refused
Notary Errors and Omissions insurance protects the notary:
- By paying back the bonding company
- Assisting with legal fees
- Helping cover claims that exceed the bonded amount

Why Attorney & Notary Supply?
When you train with Attorney & Notary Supply, Inc. (A.N.S.), you are learning from professionals who have helped shape notary education, practice standards, and notary law in Washington State for over four decades.
Attorney & Notary Supply, Inc. is Washington State’s largest full-service notarial supply company. Based in Issaquah, we specialize in bonding, insuring, and training Washington notaries, while also providing notarial supplies to notaries nationwide.
A.N.S. has been a trusted resource for notary education for 40 years. After serving on the Notary Law Revision Committee in 1985, then-President Judith Welsh began offering notary seminars to help notaries understand and perform their duties within the scope of the law. In 1993, Rebecca Jacob joined Ms. Welsh in teaching these seminars and now serves as President of A.N.S. With more than 35 years of notarial experience, Ms. Jacob has helped shape both the standards notaries follow today and Washington’s current notary law.
For decades, A.N.S. has provided year-round, statewide public notary seminars as well as private group training sessions. In addition to our broad notarial knowledge, products, and services, we also offer select specialized products, including court bonds and corporate record kits.
